No longer obese
Yeah, I know this will sound funny to some of you.
I have posted before the fact that I had a gastric bypass last November.
I am 6'4" and last year weighed 435 pounds.
On November 9th, 2007 they wheeled me in for surgery, I weighed 405 pounds.
Got on the scale after a shower this evening and weighed 237 pounds.
On the BMI chart I use, that puts me in the overweight category.
I am no longer obese.
I know that sounds funny being excited about being "merely" overweight, but from where I was, it is the most amazing feeling ever!
Just had to share.
We now return you to your regular scheduled kilt discussion...

The top of "normal" for me at 6'4" is 197 pounds.
I already have people telling me to stop, I am looking too thin.
I think that is a bit of an exaggeration, but I have no desire to get that thin.
My goal at this point is to remain between 230 and 235.
Once I start hitting the weights at the gym a little harder, I may even add weight back on as I bulk up.
At that point I will ignore the BMI charts and start having my fat content calculated, which is a much better representation of health anyway.
The best part of all this is, I feel better, healthier, have more energy than ever before in my life.

"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Oh, fine, great, encourage this sort of behavior. I am so tired of people losing weight, because it seems like every time someone around me loses it, I find it!
Seriously though -- I'm glad for you!

Congratulations. As someone who has been through weight watchers, I hope you shed those pounds, and didn't mearly loose them to find them again. Keep the good attitude, and remember one day at a time.
