Good non-reference books, Scots related...?

For all you out there that like Scottish history and romance, I highly recommend the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

* 1700's * Scotland! * Men in Kilts!* Romance! * Gallant Men with long hair and bare chests! * Men in Kilts!* Oh, I said that once already.

um, maybe I am getting carried away. Where is that next book? LOL

Warning, her books run 850 to over 1000 pages EACH. Well worth the read though!

Can anyone else recommend any books that have a good storyline to them?

I'm a big fan of the Outlander books. My wife got me into them when we read them together shortly after we started dating and I really love D.G's writing style. They are such good books I even forgive her grave historical errors from early on. (And that is saying a lot since I am usually volubly annoyed about such things.)

As far as other Scottish books, I will ALWAYS recommend Nigel Tranter. His books are all well researched and well written. (Though less fantastical than the Outlander books.)

Well Besides the works of Robert Burns I'd say for a good wee read, no 1000 pages here I would go with

A fun wee book perfect for summertime.

Two Crowns For America by Katherine Kurtz is an interesting story connecting the Scottish Rites with both Scottish and American independence.

the Rebel King series by Charles Randolph Bruce & Carolyn Hale Bruce are excellent reads (though they could have been run through a spell checker!). I have met the authors, wonderful people.

My wife was reading Outlander while we were in Scotland several years ago. I ended up reading the series years later. I am not as much of a fan of the last 2 books, but the first 3 were quite good.

Do a search on amazon for kilt or highland and several trashy novels will appear. My wife just finished Bad boys in kilts or something like that......I'll double check..
