Highland Granite Tartan Colors?
What colors are in the Highland Granite tartan? Also, what are the main background colors?
LOCHCARRON OF SCOTLAND's Highland Granite tartan
Thanks.

Well, they show pretty good in the image you linked to, so I'm not sure what the difficulty is. (Unless you maybe thing this is a B&W pic of a color tartan!) :-)
The main color is a dark, marled grey. The secondary color is a lighter mid-grey. Then the overstriped are black and a very pale grey that almost looks like it has a shade pink to it.
Here's a picture of the tartan in action:

Thanks Matt, that gives me a good idea of what it looks like.
Everyone says I look good in the Nightstalker tartan, but that is an achrylic kilt... One day I would like to replace it with a wool kilt that is a little bit like it.

I don't seem to find the Gray Granite tartan in wool anywhere... just in MMPV, and I've read that is close to the Nightstalker tartan.
Lochcarron does have a shepherd check tartan, Shepherd tartan, that sounds like it's black and white...

The Highland Granite Tartan is proprietary to Lochcarron. It is available from no one else and only in 16oz Wool.
The Gray Granite is proprietary to Marton Mills in their Balmoral line of 12oz. P/V only.
The Night Stalker is of course a Stillwater exclusive in 6.5oz Acrylic.
The two are similar in that they are both almost monotones with black, and various shades of Gray. I find that I like the Highland Granite a little better because is hass a blend of two yarns. one of a darker Gray twisted with one of a lighter gray that gives a wonderful depth to the fabric. Almost exactly like the granite stone it is named for.
The Marton Mills is a bit brighter and more distinctly Black/White.
If I were to compare these two, on color and appearance only, with the NightStalker Tartan from Jerry I would choose the Highland Granite hands down.
Remember also that there are some very nice Black on Black Tartans available. The three from Marton Mills are true Black on Black and I love making Kilts from them for weddings and very formal events. I've even done two of them with Black Satin stripes down the sides. Uber-formal.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

Thanks Wizard of BC, that's very helpful.
Guess that seddles it then. I will plan on going with the Highland Granite tartan when I am able to get a traditional kilt of one kind or another. Might go for a box pleat.

I like my NightStalker just fine, but that Highland Granite is sweet. If only SWMBO'd let me spring for one.

Nothing wrong with that, Ted! I can, as many others, certainly relate.

That doesn't mean I won't also end up with the Gray Granite USAK semi-trad at some point. It's just been a mess weeding through all the tartan stuff trying to find the ones that are right for me.
This one will take care of the gray/black compatible tartan. I may have already found the brown compatible tartan, but that's a special weave.
