wore kilt in Times Square NYC this weekend

So this weekend I went to see a show that was in Times Square in New York City. I wore my kilt. On the way to the theater I passed plenty of people but in particular there was a group of men wearing robes, head pieces, heavy gold chains and spouting their information about their views of the bible and how man etc etc...so as I walked by on his microphone he blurbs "and hopefully there will be a time when men stop wearing skirts in Times Square"

I didn't even acknowledge him saying what he did but I so wanted to go to him and tell him that "Respect earns respect"

However, a few minutes later as I was entering the theater I was stopped (as everyone else was) at the security check point. The guard with the hand held metal detector just stopped to look me up and down and he smiled. As I walked past him he said: "Don't think you are going to get any strange looks from me because I play pipes and wear a kilt myself. I hope your wearing it proud and the 'right way'." (completely implying that I was regimental) to which I said..."Of course, is there any other way?"

So as I enter the lobby the female ticket taker saw me, smiled and indirectly asked if I was wearing anything under my kilt...to which I said, "Wouldn't be polite is I asked what you wear under your skirt would it?"

Made for a real fun time...

On a whole...most don't notice, many don't comment and when they do have the courage to talk to you - just tell them the truth and educate them.

Personally, I wear my kilt because I think it is fun, I like it and it feels good!

I really wanted to say something but ignoring him was probably the best. I think he just needed a mirror. He looked like one of the three kings. no joke.

If he only knew that the 2 bags I was carrying had food containers with left overs from dinner and I was frantically looking for a homeless person to give the food rather than have the restaurant throw it away.

So I might have looked "funny" to him but I think I was being a better person.

The guy with the microphone (and his crew) are frequently in Times Square. They are racist, crazy, try to tell the crowds about how they were wronged and use the bible for examples. Don't tease or provoke those with half a deck of cards...
