Kilts in the Media - literally
I was looking for something else tonight and came across a blog entry from the folks at TV station WPIX in New York (video included) from earlier this year involving crew members in kilts:
Ok, so there were a few kilt-don'ts there (particularly in the video), but each one earned $1000 for charity from Glenlivet.
Regards,
Rex.

The African-American fellow has it pretty much down, if he could just figure out the sporran. Still, who am I to be nitpicky when it's for charity?
Maybe you could email them ome suggestions and see if you can get them to redo it The more kilt coverage the better!

You can wear the sporran to the side, but it doesn't look good with that one.
Is that guy on the far right wearing the apron on the side?

Speaking of the news media personnel who wear the kilt, I believe Brit Hume wears it, but I didn't find a pic on the 'net anywhere, yet.

If this is who I think it is, I saw him, kilted, on a couple of episodes of Tartan TV on PBS. He was in Scotland being interviewed by Fiona Ritchie about his heritage, etc.

All in all, this is very cool, even with the various faux pas

It is very cool, and I find it very cool that the fellow in this picture least likely to have Scottish ancestry is the one who looks sharpest! That should answer the folks who have doubts about kilt wearing in the absence of such ancestry!

Maybe he's pretending to be a drummer. I know drummers wear their sporran a little off. I would rate this as great exposure, since it was for charity and they seem very positive.

Yes, he's lookin' mighty fly, but don't be so quick to assume that he's the least likely to have Scottish roots. For all we know, he's a descendant of African-American slaves, who, as Henry Louis Gates, Jr., illustrates through remarkable genealogical research and DNA testing in his PBS series African American Lives (and its sequel), may very well have a family tree that reaches many places, including smallish, verdant islands in western Europe.
The other guys could just as easily be Italian, German, Polish or Norwegian. They were just about to break into a can-can in the video, and I rather doubt a true Scotsman would go there. At least one had his kilt on backwards.

Rex.
