Help me justify....
... a new kilt jacket, and which one?
I have a PC and vest, so I don't need a formal get-up. But, I really don't have anything for between informal t-shirt, polo or button-down shirt and tie.
However, I'm not sure I can justify the expense. If I look back in the past 10 years or so, I can't think of many situations that I thought to myself "I really should have worn a jacket for this."
Oh, sure, there's a lot of "I could have worn a jacket" situations.
Then, which style/color would be a good choice? A darker color for evening/semi stuff only, or would a lighter color for daywear only kinda thing?
Or, should I get two?? A lighter colored one for daywear, then a charcoal/black for evening?
Ugh....
T.
P.S. I should add that the Argyll is probably the best bet for me...unless someone has another idea...?

This is a slippery slope you are on it is in fact a sub addiction of the kilt wearer. I would say my most versatile jacket is my Gray Braemer Jacket and waistcoat. I was lucky enough to find it at my local tartan shop as an ex rental sale.
You could also look on ebay, I've had great success with kilt jackets on ebay.

Besides conversions, remind me who makes kilt jackets without the embellishments - the scalloped cuffs and pockets, epaulets, and the the fancy buttons? Just a plain, contemporary blazer, cut for a kilt. Anyone?

Have you been to any functions where others had jackets and you didn't? I would want to impress for success. I am currently working on a black kilt jacket conversion because I was at a wake and really needed a dark jacket but didn't have one. I will not be caught without it again.

That does look sharp, McMurdo.
I am kinda thinking that a charcoal/gray would probably be the best bet too. But I'm sure there'll be some other ideas...

I sometimes wear my argyll jacket without a tie; either with a button-down collar shirt or with a thin-fabric mock turtle neck sweater in the winter.

The above may be helpful. Even if you needed to hire the work done, the cost of the jacket is minimal, so could save you some that way

Ted, Glen, thanks! I knew I saw them somewhere. Looks like I'm going to have to start saving up my quarters again.
