Kilted in Ireland? Any Irish X-Markers?
I don't recall any posts from X-Markers in Ireland (but I've only been around about two months). (1st question) Are there any X-Markers in Ireland? If so, let's hear from you. (2nd question) Have any of you visited Ireland kilted? Did you see any others kilted? What was the reaction to your kilt? Thanks for the input.

I have a friend who is Irish, but living here in the states now- though he returns every year during our hot summer. He told me just last week that he has never seen anyone in Ireland kilted, though he has seen plenty of kilted people at the Irish Cultural Center here. I am betting that Retro Red is one of them .

Have a look at video clips of Irish pipe bands on YouTube. There are quite a few of them, and they certainly wear kilts.
Sadly, they now tend to wear tartan and glengarrys, whereas in the old days they mostly wore caubeens with either plain green or plain saffron kilts. You will see the latter kind of outfits in one clip that is headed something like old footage of Youghal pipe band. They seem to have become more Scottish than Irish over time. Mind you, you won't see any chequered hat bands at least, so I think they know that is a British army symbol.
I tend to think that the pipe bands are the only people that still wear the kilt in Ireland, which is a shame.

I lived in Galway, Ireland and wore a kilt once in awhile. Some comments were good, some were not so good. But I still had a great time and made a lot of new friends because of it.

Hello folks, The wee Ulsterman is here!!!.........I'm from Northern Ireland (Belfast direction)...and the only person i have seen wearing a kilt for normal attire (excluding pipe bands etc)...is a Gentleman from my home town.
He usually wears it with a waxed Barber type coat, walking boots, and short socks.
He always walks with a blackthorn stick, and he has a great swagger.
I will have to mention to him about X-marks.
I do travel around Ireland quite a bit, as i drive a truck,...and i must say, i have yet to see anyone wearing a kilt for everyday attire.
Neil.

I'm going to expand on my experiences.
While I was in Ireland, the Rugby World Cup was going on. I LOVE rugby, and tried to watch as many matches as possible. When the Scotland v. Argentina game came on, I put on my kilt and Scotland rugby shirt and went to the pub. Lots of mixed reactions. The old Irish guys loved that an American was wearing a kilt. The young Irish guys didn't. Some of the Scots at the pub (also kilted) were divided. On one hand, they liked to see the support for their team. On the other hand, I think a few of them resented the fact that I was American.
Other times when I wore the kilt out was similar. Some people really liked it. Others, learning that I wasn't from Scotland, weren't as enthusiastic.
