    Kilts and Bicycles

I've finally gotten reasonably used to wearing a kilt around from time to time but as my only means of transportation most days is my bicycle I usually end up having to avoid wearing a kilt whenever I have to travel. I've tried a few times to make it work but so far not much success. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to peddle and Kilt at the same time?

    Don't.

Seriously though, there are a few who ride kilted but I prefer to ride in bike shorts and keep the kilt rolled up in my pack. I'll put it on when off the bike. A kilt on a bike just does not present the image I want.

Having lived in the era when ladies, lasses, and younger rarely wore the bifurcated garments out in public, there were bicycles specifically designed for them, drop frame and with guards over the rear wheel to keep the skirts from catching. . . . you might want to try that type of bicycle, they are still made today.

Check with Retro Red on the forum (pm). He bike to work everyday and wears a kilt at work. He posted a nice photo on a thread called Packing kilt for motorcycle trip which you might find in the search area. He has a bag that he carries his kilt rolled up. More info on that thread. Hope this helps.

I've about given up on biking while kilted, also my arms are troubling me enough to make cycling too painful for my wrists. I'm considering buying one of these:

    www.kickbikeamerica.com

It should fit nicely with my full-time kilted lifestyle and be easier on my arms!

I generally ride recumbent bicycles, and it's best to wear p@nt$ when doing so. I never have any wrist troubles, Moosedog, so keep that option in mind.

OTOH, I've not had trouble riding whilst kilted on my Raleigh Superbe (1974 3-speed).

I don't ride a bike much anymore, however, being kilted is not a way for me to ride.

    Kilted Bicycling

No problem with this Townie by Electra. The sporran keeps the kilt down. So, far at least!!!!

Looks like a modern version of the old "drop frame" lady's bike.
