Why not a caftan, sarong or other unbifurcated garments?

This might be bloody obvious to everyone here, but why are kilts rapidly gaining in popularity, apparently the unbifurcated male garment of choice for converts from pants? I have come up with a few reasons of my own:
    1. For some, heritage.
    2. The kilt was made for action, not lounging.
    3. As far as I know, the kilt practically requires being accessorized by leather, metal & blades!
    What are your thoughts?
Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction.
