Not personally.
At work, we've got a twitter account that streams breaking news stories as they're posted.
I just don't feel the need to be that 'in touch' with what everybody's doing 'right now.' If I wanna know, I'll call ya. ; )

Is it basically just for what you're doing at the moment? That's what I gather, though I just use facebook's status update for that, so I see little point in using two programs for the same thing. Am I missing something with Twitter?

You can use SMS to get/send tweets via text messages.

Yeah - its considered micro-blogging with an added advantage of sending and receiving through international SMS text messages as well as sitting in front of the computer. It could be a nice addition to what we do here - but then everyone has a different tolerance for technological connectedness.
I follow a few interesting folks including Stephen Fry, a couple of Photography blogs, and rally racing news & updates.

re: sms.
I understand that, but I get that with facebook status updates as well. That's correct though, that that's twitter's primary/only function?
I think what really threw me off was that you can use twitter to update your facebook status etc.
(not knocking twitter, just not sure I fully understand)

Precisely. They've just put the technology out there - use the messaging service however you want to....

My hubby just created a Twitter account, so I decided to get one too.
I do think I prefer Facebook and Livejournal for keeping up with others. I'm on MySpace, but am not as fond of that one so I rarely log in over there. It is cool, because I did bump into an old acquaintance on Twitter that wasn't on any of my other networking sites. Always nice to catch up with folks, and who knows who else I'll find at the various sites that I haven't talked to in forever
I tend to keep my profiles private, so PM me if you want to be added... some of them are set where you can't even search for me apparently.
