Newbie from Sydney
Hi all.
Rob from Sydney here. I haven't had a chance to read these forums at all yet, which is unfortunate, as I have already ordered my first kilt, and hope the experience (and end product) will be satisfactory. I'm sure it will be, from the prompt response by the shop-owner.
Background:
I am adopted, and my birth name was Graham. I have red-blonde hair and am 6'2". I therefore suspect that there is a bit of the Scot in me. Not knowing entirely who my father was makes this all the more mystery, but also makes the fact harder to disprove as well.
I have noticed that a lot of larger guys (I'm 125kg here) look good in Kilts. I have always toyed with the idea of getting one until recently...
Our work has a Mufti Month gong at present (you get to dress casually for the month). There is now an ongoing war between factions as to whether 3/4 length pants are shorts, as shorts are banned. The final decree was passed, and... No shorts OR 3/4 pants allowed.
I feel the heat badly. If I have to wear trousers in an office in summer, I perspire. BUT... the boss agreed with me and said "I would love to see you come in wearing a kilt - we couldn't stop you doing that" (as it is considered a cultural wear for my ancestry, and EEO rules don't allow discrimination on basis of race, background etc etc.)
I have ordered a Poly/viscose (Wool's just a touch too hot for Summer here in Aus) 5-yard casual kilt in Graham of Menteith (the blue, not the red one) and a plain leather sporran from St Kilda Australia.
I can't wait !!!
Cheers,
Rob.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Greetings and welcome to the forum.
Nice to have an employer that encourages the wearing a kilts.
