Third spinal surgery Monday
Well, I'm having my 3rd spinal surgery on Monday the 29th. This will be my 3rd in the last 3 years. I've been trying to avoid it buy taking cortisone injections and physical therapy, but to no avail. Even after this one, I'll still have 6 herniated discs left. I've got degenerative disc disease so I have to get MRI's of my whole spine done every year to see which herniations are progressing.
The upside is that I'll be able to get back to taking daily walks in the park, and riding my 650cc Szuki Burgman maxi-scooter. It has a top speed of 115 mph, but being a mature 62 year old, I've only taken it up to 101 mph on the interstate. It's the only time I don't wear a kilt - full riding gear with body armor. Carry a kilt in the storage area though. It's funny to see some of the expressions I get when I ride to the park - exiting the men's room in a kilt, and carrying full motorcycle gear back to my bike, before beginning my walk. Can hardly wait to be able to do that again.

Wow! I can't imagine going through one back surgery let alone 3! My father, brother and myself all have back problems stemming from too much use and abuse. We used to sell construction fabrics that you place on the ground and tailgate rock onto to stabilize an area or create a near permanent driveway (we haven't replaced rock in our driveway in 22 years). The fabric was in rolls 12 foot long and close to 125 pounds each. We would get in a semi with 150 rolls every few weeks with usually just us to unload it. We all made deliveries all over our state and usually had to unload it alone. Great way to see the sate, but as I get older the more I regret doing the work.
Hope they get you back together ok and riding again. Those skooters are fun, I ride an antique - a 1978 Suzuki GS750.

My mother suffered from childhood scoliosis and had to wear a full body cast twice, she has been in pain most of her life and becoming addicted to pain medication did not help, only she and you know the pain endured, I will drink a good beer for you and say a silent prayer.

I have degenerative disc disease and scoliosis, I know how awful painful it can be. I hope everything goes well with your surgery!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery,
Sara

Get well soon and jump on that Burgman. I nearly got one of those a few years ago but decided I was too old to begin riding at my age (62 in a couple months). Thinking of you. Hang in there.
