Making a sporran
I'm a fairly competent craftsman having made several period correct hunting pouches to go with 18th century personna during reenactments. I have recently come across a beautiful piece of winter hair-on elk skin that would make a great sporran front flap. Has anyone come across a pattern for for one of those soft style pouches?

There is a search function on this forum. It's right next to "new posts." in the tool bar. You will then find a number of threads that will answer your question.
Cheers

Heya!
Don't let the crotchety veterans get to you. However, I suspect that the mods may want to move this into the DIY forum at some point...ith:
I did a general Google search though and got referred back to XMTS, specifically this thread: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...x.html?t=16716
Also looks like you can buy one here:

I found something on FLickr:

You could probably send that user an e-mail for more info or to see if he has used any other patterns...
If it were me, I'd probably just work without a specific pattern, but do a mock-up using inexpensive cloth. Then, once I got everything down pat, I'd make the real thing.

Thanks Gent's. From the references I can see that the sporran is essentially a shooting bag of the 18th century made smaller. Should be pretty easy to do. It's the gathering of the top that had me curious for a while. Looks like I need to break out the horse hide.
