Chicago Burns Night

11hr pointed this out on the Chicago rugby pub crawl thread, but I thought it deserved it's own (before it's too late anyway).

There is a Burns Supper at the Globe Pub on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. The cost is $10 for haggis, tatties and neeps. The Globe is located at 1934 W. Irving Park Rd. in Chicago. Here is a link to the bar's website:

Thanks for giving this its own post, Brewboy. The Globe, for those of you not familiar, is a big-time soccer bar on Irving Park. I've never been to their Burns Night, but they do it every year. My guess is that it is more on the casual side.

Parking isn't too bad, but to the best of my knowledge there isn't a big garage near by, as in our usual spot -the Duke of Perth.

I'll be arriving a little after 8:00; look for a WPG Gordon.

And for all the Chicago rabble that can't get their fill: the Illinois St. Andrews Society will be having a more formal Burns Supper on the 31st in Chicago and a "Nicht w' Burns" tomorrow, Jan. 24th, in Oak Lawn.

I'm planning on being there. I was invited to the St. Andrew's dinner, but I'm not much for the black tie stuff. I've put in a reservation for three (per their website). I think I'll be wearing MacLeod of Harris.

I'm going to another Burns night tonite (Sunday) at the Celtic Knot in Evanston. There will be singers and bagpipes and folks reciting Burns poetry (and haggis, of course).

It begins at 7 pm, but I'm going to try to be there by 6:30. I sent you a PM so you can call or text me if you want to meet up.
