Inexpensive dress sporrans
I'm collecting the various accoutrements for my kilted wedding outfit. I'm flabbergasted at how much sporrans cost at most retail outlets. There are a number of less expensive sporrans on eBay, but I'm sceptical about the quality. Can anyone suggest where I can find good quality, inexpensive dress sporrans, ideally online?
Thanks!

Try eBay, but add the word "antique" to your search. You'd be amazed what turns up.

Perhaps you can see about an exhire sporran from a Tartan shop, that is what I did, it has seen me to many different functions.

A bit of a warning about purchasing inexpensive dress sporrans online. The product you receive is rarely as nice as the photo on the website. And you will notice a difference in quality when you hold it.
My wife will still not tell me how much she paid for her wedding dress. Why is it we men must feel we have to get by on the cheap. You are more likely to get more use out of your attire than she will.
Have a look at our sponsers and what they offer. With them, you can't go wrong.
Don't get me wrong, inexpensive sporrans have a place, but this is your wedding. This is a very special day. You don't want to look back and say, "man...I should have gotten a nicer sporran."
Good luck. I hope you find the best you can afford. And send us some pics of the big day!

I picked up one of the inexpensive ones on eBay -- black rabbit, cantle, nice enough to wear twice or three times a year. Could an experienced kiltie tell the difference? Sure. Are there a lot of experienced kilties in northeast Kansas? Not so much.
FWIW, I have a black leather Roy Roy that I picked up used for like $20 on eBay, and now I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's probably too small, but it's so soft and supple and I've put it through an awful lot. I'm not sure what I'd do without it.
My point is that just because it's inexpensive doesn't always mean that it's cheap.

McMurdo's suggestion is good.
You can also check kiltmart.com as an online source. You won't see it advertised or talked about much on the forum. They tend to deal with inexpensive goods, largely, I believe from Pakistan. I have the advantage of being able to walk into their store and examine what they have before I buy. I have a rabbit fur dress sporran that I got there for $45 that is quite satisfactory. Is it high end? No. Is it custom made? No. But, my wife helped me pick it out and she's picky.
Last week I purchased a black Rob Roy sporran there for $25. It looks to me to be the same as one for sale on another website for $170. But, then, I don't have them side by side. Does it serve my purpose? Yes.
Since I am a walk-in customer, I can't vouch for their service.
It at least meets your desire for an online source that is less expensive.

Check out the last sporran on my recently posted thread here in Kilt Accessories titled Three New Sporrans. If you like the looks of it and think it would suit your needs PM me and I will tell you which vendor on Ebay I bought it from and how much I paid for it.

We purchased a dress sporran from an eBay vendor called Geoffrey Made for Scottish. Their company has been around quite a while and there are several satisfied customers on this forum.

I'm not sure what your exact situation is.
If you are purchasing an entire outfit for this wedding and don't have any sporrans at all may I suggest looking at this line that is carried by the Scottish Tartans Museum gift store
http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/sporran_fb.html
The Duin usasal (sp?) is $300.
But it can be worn from casual to formal
$300 is a lot, but for any outfit that required black leather accessories you would be set for life.
Not a bad investment
Cheers
