I'm planning to have a Regency themed party some time this summer. (Hopefully wit a friend from Canada as the honoured guest.)
Now, I've got a good idea of Regency Kilt fashion, regiments etc.
At no point between now and about fur years from now could I afford an accurate outfit. I'm usually a stickler for accuracy, but at a party where very few people have any idea about the Regency period I am not terribly worried.
To top it off, many of the regiments then were privately raised and outfitted in whatever the raiser thought a nice uniform was. So I can pretty much just make up a regiment.
(Yes, I pretty much want an excuse to dress up and have a biscuit tree.)
To the point!

Here is an idea of some Military uniforms from the regency period:

So what do I do?
Well, here are some of the sorts of things that are available on Ebay.
I could get an old Military tunic and alter it to have a sporran cutaway:

It would look good, but I'd rather not alter something such good quality.

I could also get a 'Military style tunic jacket.'
Alter that to have a cutaway. With some nice buttons and some appropriate piping added I think it would look really good.

(Not sure what kinda shaping I'd do for a cutaway with this one.)

Now, imagine my fantastic paintshop skills are proper piping and cordage and the like. The buttons will be nice and it'll be worn with a horsehair sporran and a nice belt and baldric with braided epaulettes: What do you think?
