Single Malt Scotch tasting
A neighbor and I went to a single malt scotch tasting last night and it was great. This was the second annual Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts fundraiser. We got piped in to the tasting area and the piper was also the historian/host for the evening. We tasted six different Scotches that included: Sheep Dip (a blend), McClelland's Lowland 5yr., Glen Morangie Quinta Ruban 10 yr., Oban 14 yr., Highland Par 12yr., and Talisker 10yr. I did not know that Talisker is from the Isle of Skye and I was wearing my IOS kilt. The host had me stand up so that the tasters could see what the tartan looked like and got a round of applause for the kilt. We fell in love with the Oban, Highland Park and of course the Talisker. It was a truly fun evening that included a brief history of Scotland, Scotch and the different and distinct distilling processes.
Tasting options and the placemat.

I'd say Highland Park and Talisker are right at the top of my list of non-Islay malts.

I have had the Oban and the Talisker. I loved them both.
It looks to have been a really fun time.
And I really love that IOS tartan.

I really like Old Pulteney with its slight sea salt taste. However, since I am now forced to take BP medicine I will have to wait for very special occasions to enjoy this and other Single Malts.
