I am a Macalester, derived from MacAlister, a sept of MacDonald. I am proud of my ancestry, I'm even a representitive of Clan MacAlister Society. But I don't own a MacAlister tartan kilt. Why? It's an unappealing arrangement of loud, clashing colors. I'm sure, at one time, it was quite fashionable. I would bet that there are many who would say that it is still lovely. Not for me thanks. I prefer subdued, earthy tones like browns and greens, I own a Buchanan hunting, a black watch, a black Stewart, an acu cammo traditional, and a brown duck Utilikilt (for around the house and camping) I also have a no name great kilt that I wear to renaissance faires. I'm getting married this fall and my fiancee wants my kilt to be fall color themed. I am leaning toward MacAlister of Skye. This decision is 2 parts because at least it's a familial tartan and 1 part because it is relatively fall "ish" . I'm sure everyone has a favorite (or many) I am just curious what you ladies and gents lean toward and why. Do you wear your clan tartan or do you prefer "new" tartans such as national tartans or do you prefer a solid colored kilt?
