    Sporran Chain hangers...

Belt or hangers, chains or hangers, we have been over this. My question is what are the options besides those? Anyone have a "All leather" sporran belt? Or any ideas to make a chain out of a less abrasive material?

    Try here:http://www.scotweb.co.uk/sr_glnsk_fa...ue?display=all

    and here: http://www.scotweb.co.uk/sr_glnsk_sq...me?display=all

These look far less abrasive and some other places offer similar chains.

Just ordered an all leather sporran belt to go with my new sporran from Wyvernleather Works. Should be here in a week or so.

Dan, I went to the pet store and got two of the chain dog collars, linked them together with a keychain ring, then put clips on the ends for the sporran. The dog collar chains are welded and polished so that they do not hurt the dog over time or get it's fur caught in the links. This isn't stirling silver, but it is a lot better than the chains that usually come with a sporran. It shouldn't dammage your kilt.

For a leather belt, I took the sporran to WalMart, and found a regular 3/4" belt that fit through the tab on the sporran, as well as, looked good with the color. It was longer than what I would normaly wear. You might have to go to the belts in the women's section to find one that fits through the tab. There are probably some other ways of attaching it to a belt, also.

    Just a different suggestion.

All of my sporrans, with the exception of those worn with evening attire, are on leather belts. Seems perfectly reasonable to use a belt for "day wear" and a chain for formal and evening wear.

    Dan,
I made a friend of mine a braided leather sporran belt for Christmas. I took a 3/4 inch wide strap and made two cuts in it, giving me three 1/4 inch strips, dyed it, and then did a three strand braid (like braiding hair) with it. It turned out well, and he was quite pleased with it. I'm planning to do the same thing for myself only using a 1.5 inch strap and braiding 1/2 inch strips for myself. If you would be interested, I'll let you know how it turns out.
