Tartan Day at the Alamo and SAHG

Friday was Tartan Day at the Alamo to celebrate the Scots that died fighting for Texas independance.

This guy had a great uncle that died at the Alamo.

The Alamo at night, after the ceremony.

Me with the wreaths and bouqets laid in rememberance. One of the park rangers took the chain down for a better pic since I had been at the ceremony.

At the Highland Games. These were two sharp older gentlemen.

Steve MacIntyre and me with my Scotties, Maggie and Fergus.

It was a good two days and a good time.

The Alamo was one of the places we visited while we were down in San Antonio a few years ago for a conference. Lots of history there. Thanks for sharing with us.

"Remember the Alamo" is one of those phrases.

Now "Remember the Kilted Alamo" is another.

Great pics! One of the Alamo legends is that a fellow named John MacGregor played his bagpipes in musical "duels" against Col. Crockett and his fiddle....

    Thumbs up

Glad there was a turnout at the Alamo, the deal at the capital didn't happen for some reason, and nobody told me! We made the best of it though; http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/t...514/index.html

I grew up in Pearsall, 60 miles outh of San Antonio.

My G-grandfather when he came from Derbyshire England, he traveled to South Africa and then worked his way over from there to Boston as a cook's assistant. He lived in Boston for a few years but recieved a letter from his Sister-in-law who ran a boarding house in San Antonio. The letter mentioned a nice English lady was staying at the boarding house. He settled his business and headed to San Antonio. When he got there, the English lass had become engaged to some local. Shen she met my G-grand father, she broke off her engragement that evening and married him 3 days later - on St. Valintine's Day. When they went to get the marriad license before getting married, he had to ask her name. The old boarding house was where the Gunther Hotel is now, downtown San Antonio.

I have spent most of my life running arround that area as most all my heritage is from right there. I am kin to the 1st Methodist Circuit Preacher in the Republic of Texas, Rev. John Wesley DeVilbiss.
