    World's strongest beers.

I found this article online when I was looking to find what the alcohol content was in Sam Adams Utopia.

http://beeradvocate.com/articles/501. I'd like to try some of these, but I don't think I'd go $200 for a bottle of beer.

World Wide Stout and Raison d'Extra are both extremely good and can be had for a reasonable price. I'm extremely luck in that there's a DogFishHead Alehouse 15 minutes from my house and they regularly have these on draught. Both bottle well though, so if you can find em in your area, you're in for a treat.

Unless my memory has failed me{which it often does} some of the "potato beer" drank while stationed in Okinawa,USMC,3rd F.S.R. was much stronger.

Any other ol'timers on here experience the same.

    Thumbs up

Dogfish' World Wide Stout is a pretty good beer if you can find it!

there is a point where the alcohol content of beer gets too high to be called beer and is then called barley wine (wine made from grain not fruit). I forget the percentage but it might be 10-12 %. Most of the ones I have tried are not very tasty, too bitter for me.

As novel as that is, the higher alcohol content does not a better beer make. I'll stick with my 4.8% Spotted Cow from New Glarus brewery.

But at the same time, it doesn't necessarily make it a worse beer either.

Some of the more tender amongst us may want to stick with that 3.2 Baby Beer they used to make us drink on liberty in Norfolk. I remember spending a whole week practicing my killing skills, storming beaches, directing naval gunfire, and enduring an overnight compass course only to exit the gates at Little Creek and be told by some bar maid that I wasn't old enough to drink real beer!

Kind of made my unhappy. Ha! Fortunately the gunny showed up, calmed us down before we removed bricks from the builidng, and took us mainside for some brew at the club.

But--back to the subject at hand--I have sampled several home brewed varieties with very high alcohol content, and I always found them to be quite good.

"Bad beer" is something of an oxymoron.

I have a case of the Sam Adams Triple Bock that I use to marinate meat when I BBQ.

    And I own a Utopia (2007) and a three Chocolate Bocks (2007 & 2008).
