Wining and dining in Fredricksburg tomorrow...

My wife has the day off tomorrow (San Jacinto day in Texas) and Tuesday is my normal day off. So, we decided to make an hour road trip to Fredricksburg to pick up some bottles of wine and enjoy some good German food and beer. It'll be a good day to wear a kilt me thinks int:

    Smile Liederhosen

My wife and I ate dinner at a German restaurant in New Brunswick, Canada once - I was still wearing my kilt from the day's activities on PEI. When we entered the establishment, the proprietor (in liederhosen) took a look at me and said: Are you taking the piß out of me?

    Thumbs up

Man... I wish I; a, lived an hour away from Fredricksburg, and b, had San Jacinto day as a holiday!

We get out there maybe once a year for car rallies or cowboy shoots, always catch a meal at the Ausländer Restaurant and a beer or two at the brewery.

    Have a good time!

When I read the thread title, my mind went racing till I realized in reading the post it was Fredericksburg, Texas and not Fredericksburg, Virginia. Enjoy your day!

Not sure about the Virginia F-Burg, but Fredericksburg here in Texas is German to the core. They've got alot of cool wineries though so we'll be doing some tasting for sure.

And to be honest, I half-expect no comments or even sideway glances over the kilt tomorrow. Granted, it IS a German town, but pretty culturally diverse from the few times I've been there. 95% of the people probably wouldn't even bat an eye.

What I'd really like is to find a town in Texas with a strong Scottish heritage similar to a place like Fredericksburg. Anyone know?

As you note, Fredericksburg VA does have a strong historic links to Scotland from the Colonial days. But, I do get the a few glances and questions about the kilt. Our only statue is of General Hugh Mecer, Revolutionary War hero who earlier served Bonnie Prince Charlie as a surgeon on the field of Culloden. By the way we have no German restaurants, much to the dismay of my Berlin born wife!
