    Aarrgghhh

We went to the Frederick Celtic Festival yesterday, and had a great time, I will post about that elsewhere. This is a rant.

During the opening ceremonies, most of the clans with booths had a group with a banner marching while the pipe bands played. One of the clans had a person, carrying the banner!, with his kilt on backwards, with the pleats in front and the aprons in the back. Now I have only been wearing kilts regularly for about a year, and he to might have been new. But WHY didn't someone take him aside and help the poor fellow out? And him out there representing the clan? I don't understand.

    Which clan was this?

I hear about people wearing the kilt backward, that seems like it would be difficult to do, though. Not sure how you reach around to buckle the straps... I don't think I'll ever try.

Good question Geoff. Somebody must have noticed the error.

I'd rather not say. Does it matter? One would think even someone from a different clan would notice and help.

Ahhh, but he's probably seen the kilt worn that way on TV (can't locate the pictures right now, but So You Think You Can Dance was one instance) so he must be right and the rest of us wrong.

Ya, you're right; it doesn't matter which clan it was. Still, you would think the poor guy would have seen the other kilts being worn correctly and figured it out.

I've had people come up before and tell me my kilt was on backwards. (It wasn't, they just thought it was) I just show them where the buckles are, and they usually say "Oh that makes sense." Which is the point. If you had never worn jeans before and someone handed you a pair, how hard could it be to figure out which way they go on. You've got two options and one of them would make it very hard to zip. Finally, I can't imagine the flat front of a kilt would fit very well over you backend or feel comfortable. Sigh.

I have seen a photo of Richard Branson the CEO of Virgin Airlines, wearing a kilt backwards.

Unfortunately I don't have a copy or I would post it, I was never sure if he did it deliberately as a publicity stunt, or if he genuinely didn't know the correct way to wear it.

Either way it made me cringe.

    Kind Regards,

    David.
