Scotland versus the World!
Who has more kilts? Scotland only has about 5.1 million people, but it seems logical to think they have a larger percentage of kilt wearers than most other countries. Do the kilties from lands a far outnumber the Scots? Vote your opinion.

I have read...somewhere...that the US has a larger proportion of the population that wears kilts than Scotland (or anywhere else in the world).

Percentagewise? I'd say the Scots have a higher percentage of kilt wearers. As far as numbers? Scotland is a small country, so I'd say it likely that countries with billions of people would have more kilt wearers.

Interesting question, I know that through the mists of myth and legend, one would like to think that there are more kilt wearers in Scotland. Realistically though you must realize that with a population the size of Scotland's there just has to be more kilt wearers worldwide. Look at what the native Scots on the site have to say about it, they will tell you themselves that the majority of Scots do not own their own kilt that they in fact rent a kilt when one is needed. So I had to say The Rest of the World has more Kilt Wearers.

Well, I am reasonable confident that more kilts are probably exported then sold domestically in Scotland, but as we know, not everyone who buys a kilt wears it.

Couldn't even hazard a guess. I can tell you the highest percentage of the population being kilt wearers is at Bicknell Grange, Storrington, West Sussex, UK.

I voted before I thought this through. If we're talking, like, per capita, percentage, then I would have voted Scotland. If we just mean number of bodies in kilts, then my vote is (as I voted) for the rest of the world.

I intended it to be a gross # of kilts. Per capita would be much harder to judge I think. All that averaging.
