Poly/Cotton Supplier - Wonderful Service
I just wanted to throw out a recommendation for those DIYers. In my search for decent poly/cotton fabric, I found this place. Vermont's Barre
I found the Fabrics.
Their description online is a little vague as to the weight and feel of the poly/cotton fabrics, so I sent an e-mail. Within an hour, I had a response from who I assume is owner - Jamie. He was very honest and sincere in his knowledge of the fabric, which is that it's similar to clothing (as stated on the website.) After some back and forth (which was quite pleasant,) he offered to send me some samples of the fabrics I was interested in. Two working days later (today,) I received a sample of his Marpat, ACU, and Olive solid.
The camo fabrics seem very similar, and slightly lighter than the solid. All are very nice materials, and would make excellent kilts. They're a bit on the lighter side compared to a duck cloth or denim, but much better than other cotton-based twills I have seen. I will get them on the postal scale at work tomorrow and do some calculations for their actual weight per linear yard.
Just wanted to give a nice shout out to the folks at Vermont's Barre Army Navy. Jamie was by far one of the nicest online vendors of this type who I've had the pleasure of talking to. By the way, they also have some other items around that are very nice.
The only complaint I have, is that the ACU and Olive seem to have a prominent vertical striping, maybe 1/4" apart. Which is not that big of a deal to me, but could be to others. It may even create a unique look on the solid colors. The Marpat looks superb.
If you do order from here, notice that there are several varieties of material on there - the ones I am reviewing the poly/cotton twills.

I think that striping you're referring to is the ripstop thread. Every quarter inch or so the cloth contains a thread that is several times larger in diameter than the others. This serves to stop rips..."ripstop"!
And yes, the folks at V-B are tops, as is their merchandise.

Thanks for the fabric source. I've been doing some pretty fruitless internet searches lately.
Did you ask what the width of the fabric is? And I look forward to finding out the weight.

Indeed - I've been doing so for a while myself. When I find some good stuff, I like to share the knowledge.
From what I can tell, they're all 60" width. It should say in the description box underneath the fabric. Looking at the ACU right now, it's 60".
Unfortunately I forgot to bring the material with me to work - had a late start this morning. I'll try again tomorrow.

Bad news. Our postal scale at work only measures to the 1/10th ounce. The olive square (3.5"x3.5") measured .1oz, and the others didn't measure anything. Based on that, the olive works out to 17.6oz per linear yard (36"x60".) That doesn't seem accurate, so I'm going to assume that the scale is rounding up.
My best guess is that the two camo samples I got are around 10-11oz per linear yard, and that the solid OD is around 12oz per linear yard.
I'll try again when I get some yardage.

Wow... Further being impressed by this company.
I made an order of 4 yards OD fabric, 4 yards Khaki Fabric, and 2 yards Black Fabric at 7:44am.
It is now 10:10am and I just received an e-mail with a UPS tracking number.
Big thumbs up for these folks.
Sorry to keep building them up, I'm not in any way affiliated, but holy cow these guys have wonderful customer service.

I just received the material I ordered. It took a while since they're in Vermont, but it was indeed shipped the same day.
The fabric itself looks really nice, and feels heavy. I'll get it on the postal scale before I leave work and post up the weights.

Alright - got the material on the scale.
The black measured out to 8.6 oz per linear yard (which is just fine - it's for a skirt for my wife.)
The olive measured out to 13 oz per linear yard
The khaki measured out to 12.5 oz per linear yard
I'll update this when I order some camouflage for those interested.
