    Buttoned Ghillie shirt

    i'm wondering if anyone on here can help. i've been trying for ages to get a certain type of shirt to wear with the kilt but can't find one anywhere. it's the kind Billy Connolly wears in the film Mrs Brown.

    it looks almost exactly like a Jacobite shirt but has buttons and a collar instead of a lace-up fastening, making it look more like a modern shirt when worn with an Argyle and waistcoat (the difference being it would have the same 'baggy' sleeves of the Jacobite shirt and would be pullover).

    have any of you seen these in shops or am i going to have to hunt down someone good with a needle and thread and try to convert an existing shirt?

    This company may be able to sort you out Heilanner

    possibly the collarless one, worn with a separate collar (which they also do)

    Thumbs up

    Look into places that do clothing for old west re-enactors or "cowboy shooters" here's an example;

    At our last Santa Convention in Gatlinberg Tn. a lady was selling just what you are looking for. I have one and it is just grand. It came with gold fashion buttons and I changed them out for Celtic lace silver buttons. It is made from a silky material and is fashioned exactly like a ghillie shirt. When worn with a tweed or black waist coat is looks top notch!

    I will try to locate her name and number for you if I can. She is a regular vendor there.

    Best part, it was only $53.00.

    I guess the collar is the only crucial measurement with a shirt that full... I could do with some impetus to shed a few pounds myself

    They're really easy to make if you're handy with a sewing machine! I have a pattern I can give away copies of (no copyright) to anyone who'll pay shipping. Limited of course to the number of copies I can make on my free time...
