Annual Summer Power Outages
Well, we are in the power outage season due to the summer haboob winds, and the ten million air conditioners per square mile that are running all at the same time.
That doesn't do well for an Internet connection.
It doesn't do well for my nerves either; my little aluminum cottage has vintage 1970 aluminum electrical wiring...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Ya, my workshop has all copper wiring, and I've had the air conditioner and waterheater put on copper lines. Actually the workshop has an equal amount of power available, but there isn't any insolation and air conditioning out there.
Anyway, this happens every year.

The property next to mine used to be a rental property. The power pole that the line comes down to with the main breakers for the house had rotted, so the power company shut that off, and also found that they had bypassed the meter somehow.
So those people moved and the landlord rented it to some other people and loaned them a generater that they ran night and day for months, out side my window,. There were all kinds of people living over there, and someone eventually stole the generater. All those people were living over there in the middle of the summer without electricity!
It's a crazy neighborhood...

Well, it finally rained for about twenty seconds...
The wind is really, really strong, and that is what is getting on my nerves.
I've just been sitting here sewing , though I did go water some of the plants and run the drip system for a while. I don't want to go out there too much.

Hey, I live two miles from Glen Canyon Dam and five miles form the Navajo Generating Station (coal fired) and still get power outages all the time. Guess the local power goes to Cali and Vegas and we buy ours from somewhere up in Utah. Go figure. When I moved here from Phoenix figured power outages would be a thing of the past...wrong. Place has lots of flashlights and candles at the ready.

Well the power has been fine today so far, but who knows...
There's been several times that a mile or so of power lines have been ripped down out here by the wind. I guess they call them micro bursts.
Usually the power goes out because a transformer on one of the poles can't handle it any more and blows.

We have them in this rural area all year long.During the summer, I just turn off the computer and unplug everything as soon as I hear thunder in the distance. In the last four years, I've lost 3 power supplies and a motherboard to power surges caused by the power cycling on and off rapidly 3 times before staying off.

Ya, sometimes I have to go through all the process of reseting my modem when the power flickers on and off.
It's been staying on so far. I'm having to clean up the mess the wind storms made of my property, though.
