    Tweed Jacket Colors

Would tweed jackets in the Victorian or Edwardian period have been made in lighter shades? Would they have had anything as dark as say charcoal tweed? I'm looking to either purchase a tweed kilt jacket or convert a tweed jacket into one and would like something that would fit the look for the Victorian or Edwardian periods. Something with classic style and look.

Then, as now, tweed would have come in a broad range of colours and shades. The cut of the jacket is probably more important that the choice of colour if you are trying to create a specific, as opposed to generic, look.

Thanks, MacMillan! I'll hit the vintage photos thread and examine the cut of the jackets.

Are you going for that era of jacket because you like the style of it or because you're reenacting it?

Off the top of my head I'd say the best thing to do would be to look at the Kenneth MacLeay prints, as they are quite accurate and show colour. Looking at these I'd say the colours are about the same as what we have today, and the cut of lets say an Argyll jacket remains just about the same with small differences. Of course there were other styles of jacket not seen today. Here are some of the MacLeay prints to illustrate what I mean.
