I been looking to get a new kilt. So I been looking around on the web and found this kiltmaker. Do any of you guys order form this maker.

I own one of the Amerikilts. They are a light weight kilt that I find great for knocking about particularily in hot weather. They look good with a t-shirt or golf shirt but I don't think they do "dressy" very well. If you are looking for something that will do day to day well and that is easy to care for, pull the trigger.

I have three Amerikilts. Green Black and Tan. They are great for knocking around in. The only drawback is that the pleats try to curl when the kilt is cleaned.

Some of my first kilts were AmeriKilts. Think I had four or five..."out grew" them and they've moved on to smaller waisted men. I liked them...they are what they are. I found they dressed up well with vests and sweaters as well as being a basic kilt good for hiking and chores.

Mike Butler, the owner, is a good man, even called me personally when I ordered up three at a time. Don't ever remember seeing a post about poor service or quality. You can double check by searching this board for AmeriKilt and see what you turn up.

He also offers the best value in basic kilt belts that I've ever found. Think a beltmaker down in Virginia makes them for him. Come in black or brown. Fine quality belts at a fair price. Great value. Liked them so well when I got fat I reordered longer ones from Mike.

Guess it was four kilts. Here are pics...been about five years and was using a disposable camera back then.



Black AmeriKilt with a Pendleton vest.



Forest Green AmeriKilt with another Pendleton vest...also wore this kilt to a funeral with a sweater.



Putty AmeriKilt - sort of a War2 American Khaki color. Think they've changed the shade since.



Tiger Stripe AmeriKilt. This was very light and a great summer kilt. Don't think its available anymore.

You can mix and match the cloth "sporrans." I also picked up some contrasting color cloth "sporrans" from Mike so I could do a two-tone look with the sporran...tan sporran with black kilt, forest green sporran with putty kilt.

Any how, to the question; Mike Butler's a good man with a quality kilt for a less expensive kilt.

And putting weighted clips on the pleats while the kilt dries will reduce the pleat curl effect.

Mike (the owner) is a nice guy and a friend of ours. I don't own any of his kilts, so I'll let others speak to the quality. On a PERSONAL level, he's a nice guy and a trustworthy vendor.

Amerikilts are great for a warm weather. Easy to care for. Great for running around town.

A great casual kilt. Not my choice for dressy occasions. Perfect for around the house or meeting up with friends for a pint. I love the detachable sporran/pouch.

I don't own an Amerikilt but I've visited their booth at the PA Renaissance Festival several years ago. The fellow at the booth (not sure if he was the owner) was a super nice guy and patiently answered all my questions. The kilts looked and felt very well made and the prices were better than any other casual kilts I'd come across at the time. One thing I particularly liked about Amerikilts is the fact that the apron is wider than a typical casual kilt. I've also heard from a number of customers that are very happy with their Amerikilts.

What is the waist band like? Is it more pants like or traditional kilt?
