When no other sgian will dubh
I just had to take a little time off for myself this week, and make a sgian that I had been designing in my head for some time now.
This sgian is 100% metal: carbon steel blade (3.5 inches), with a copper, brass, and silver solder handle (4 inches long, 5/8 inch thick- a good fist grip). Made to be tough as can be. The knife weighs 3.4 ounces (103.5 grams).
You might notice some finish blemishes; they are intentional, as I plan on really scuffing this knife up as I test it to see all that it will do. Fine finishing, and embellishment, will be on future models.
I will be trying it out, giving it the acid test on everthing in sight. Then, I will make a few more, perhaps with some patterning to the copper handle.
All metal construction:

Really sweet. I can see where it is a great medium for decoration. Good idea. I am interested to see where you go with it. Keep on!

Sweet-looking, knife, Mark. One suggestion: Flatten the handle a bit more so that it will sit well in the sock w/o bulging.

Thanks Turpin, I forgot to say that the handle is 5/8 inch thick. I can go to 1/2 inch on the next one. The handle blank has already been sawed to length.
I got a package in the mail today: 18 gauge sterling silver ready for the saw!

Pretty, but I imagine quite heavy.

That's lovely. I can see the copper being allowed to gain a patina -- or perhaps some contrasting patina/protected areas when you add decorative elements.
How is the weight?

Drool.... I need to start saving my pennies now I see.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Is the handle solid, or hollow? It is beautiful. Are you going to sell these?
