An Excellent Kilted Saturday in Southern Ontario
Hi all
My wife and I spent teh weekend in Southern Ontario (the Niagara region). Saturday was my day for kilting-out!
First we went up to The Scottish Loft in Niagara on the Lake. I was able to get a simple kilt pin and a proper pair of hose there. I got a lot of smiles and nods of approval from the passersby on the street.
Toured around a bit more, and then had to stop at Seaway Mall in Welland to get shoes for my wife (the day wasn't all about me -- I wouldn't have it that way for she is my partner in all!). While there we stopped for lunch and teh guy at the Arby's asked me what 're-enactment' I was in. I told him none - that I just liked wearing the kilt. He mentioned a shop in Barrie Ontario that had kilts and tartans -- anyone know which it might be.
Lots of smiles, -- and as it would have it - -mostly the from the older ladies.
On our way back to the car an elderly woman asked my if my kilt was buckskin, it being the Stillwater Irish Saffron. I said no, and she said she liked it nonetheless. Hmm, a buckskin kilt -- how interesting!
And then -- the best part of the day -- going to Mass at St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in St Catharines, whilst kilted where our good friend and not-yet-kilted Irish priest greeted us, and complimented me.
Oh -- the Chinese staff at the restaurant we went to, liked it also!
It was a beautiful day -- the kind of clear blue sky that one only sees on fall day in Ontario, and it was made all the better by being with my wife and being kilted!
Tony
PS -- a photo - soon

The Tartan Shop in Barrie is Burnett's and Struth. Here is their address:
570 Bryne Drive
Barrie, ON L4N 9P6
If you do a search I'm sure you find lots about them, right now they are having their casual kilt sale on. Here is my review of the casual kilt I picked up from them a while ago
