    Kilts and Motors

Selkirk Rally is the biggest event of its type in Scotland, with 1,640 exhibits this year. Just inside the entrance I encountered this kilted steward.

The curator of the display of Automobile Association memorabilia was wearing a Black watch kilt.

I met Tom from my Scottish Country Dance class at the tractors section where he was admiring a 1942 Ford Ferguson identical to the first one he drove. He wasn't wearing his kilt but he was wearing a flat cap in Hawick tartan.

I was impressed by this 1974 Atkinson Borderer.

I went to meet some friends on the Toyota cars stand. Here Debbie stands beside her Toyota.

    1993 Toyota Corolla.

Galashiels ex Service Pipe Band march into the arena to pipe in the cavalcade of Minis to celebrate 50 years of the classic Mini car designed by Alex Isigonis.

The band played on for a time as increasing numbers of Minis began to encircle them but they eventually stopped playing due to the noise and fumes from the cars.

Some of the Minis flew the Saltire.

A final look at those Minis as they continued to drive round and round the pipe band.

    Nice photos Alex.

Seeing those Minis reminds me of when I was a all of 16 years old. My friend had a Mini and we used to cruise around town from time-to-time. I can't begin to describe the feeling one gets when sitting next to a semi truck, and seeing the wheel's lug nuts at eye level.

Thanks, Alex; as a proud new MINI owner myself, I particularly appreciate the last few photos. I hope you don't mind that I shared them with the folks on North American Motoring (the X Marks of the MINI world).

Same POV from my first car, a '63 Midget. Thought nothing of running up and down Hwy 101 from SoCal to San Jose during my early college years.

Great pix, Alex, looks like a fun time! I did have to laugh at a Mini tour group we saw in Cornwall last visit, several of the originals had rear-window decals proudly declaring themselves "100% BMW-free"
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].
