First Fire of the Season

The weather is damp and in the mid 40's. I don't want to get the furnace going yet so the fireplace will get the chill off. My friends in MT would laugh.
I was taking the ceremonial "first fire of the season" pic when a curious friend passed by.
My wife has uploaded this to her facebook page.
Spent the evening with a blended scotch (Chivas), my lovely wife, the nosy dog, and the embers of an oak fire.
Life is good.

If I could I would package up and send all of you some of this Record HEAT we are having down here. Today is the first day this month we are going to be out of the 90*'s. I am looking forward to the cooler temps at the Stone Mountain Games this weekend!

Nice pic! The thing we miss most of all since moving from Calgary is our woodburning fireplace.

Beauty.
Yeah, with the "cold" snap we have had the last week or so the wife started firing up the gas log fireplaces in our hearth room and family room---nice cozy glow and warmth as we sit around it. Just not the same, however, as the roaring wood fires we made in our old fireplace in the house I grew up in. Although we now do not have any ember-burn holes in our good rugs either.

I made two mistakes when I bought the house.
1. No Garage
2. No Fireplace.

I tried bringing some of it back with me but it didn't work. Left Brunswick, GA yesterday and it was 64* at 4am and the thermometer steadily sank to 42* by the time I got back to Rochester. The furnace has been lit for 2 weeks now.

Make that a heated garage, with guidelines that the wife is not allowed to put anything in it that she didn't take out of it.
