Opinions on the following outfit please...

First off I want to apologize for the picture quality, but it's the best I could do with a cell phone. My wife's Holiday office party is this Saturday night and this is the outfit I am planning to wear.

    Details:
Kilt - Sportkilt "Works" in the Modern Ferguson Tartan
Waistcoat - Gray with tweedy pattern (Target Clearance section for $12)
Shirt - standard white button down
shoes - black dress with buckle
Hose - standard plain in a navy blue color
    Flashes - red
Sporran - Pakinstan made white rabbit fur

This is by far the most dressed up I have gone out kilted and would like any advice the experts (and rabble) can provide.

    Thanks,
    Pete

    Your outfit looks fine.

Just so that people will have something to discuss, I will suggest that you wear some other color socks. The navy blue is perfectly acceptable, but ( like black) always looks to me like you took off your dress trousers. It is a party. Why not inject a little color or even a second pattern? Again, because nobody can criticize your ensemble, I will suggest that you grab some argyle over the calf socks and wear them- this gives someone a chance to point out that OTC socks are NOT kilt hose.

You might try hiking your sporran up an inch or so, if it isn't already crowding your waistcoat. And be sure your watch chain is the same color as your cantle and sporran chain. Another thread will give you the dubious advantages of tucking your waistcoat into your kilt- and plenty of authority for NOT doing so.

    Have a good time.

I think your outfit looks great!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

    It looks great to me!

The camera angle may be skewing it a bit, but it looks like your kilt could afford to be hiked up just a tad so it's at the top of your knees. If it's already at the proper height and it's just the camera angle, then ignore me please.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but are you leaving the bottom button on the waistcoat undone? I have that same waistcoat and mine seems to come together more at the bottom when fully buttoned. That's another issue we can debate, I suppose, but I personally think this waistcoat looks better buttoned all the way down.

Oh, and don't forget to put a hanky in your sleeve!

    Thumbs up

Looking good, Pete! I do, however, agree with Maclowlife that different colored socks will add some visual "punch". Other than that, enjoy knockin' 'em dead!

I think you look good. You could wear different colored hose, but what you have on is fine. Sometimes a subtle, more unified palette works well, too.

I would love to wear some argly or more flashy hose, but right now I only have the navy blue and forest green. The wife said she liked the blue better than the green. Maybe I just need to get some Hose Toppers from Big Mikey.

I do have the bottom button of the waistcoat undone and the camera angle does seem make the the sporran and kilt look a little low.

...and the waistcoat/belt thread is why I am not wearing a belt in this photo :-)

    Thanks for the input.

Pete - I have two sets of Big Mikey's hose toppers and they really do dress up a plain pair of hose.

The outfit is not bad as is. I would hike up the kilt a wee bit though.
