MacDonald of Glenaladale Tartan
I’m trying to track down the original fragment of the MacDonald of Glenaladle tartan. In 1968 the tartan was rewoven in Scotland from details taken from an old specimen that was apparently at, or in some way associated with, St. Peters, PEI. The original is thought to date to at least 1772 when it was taken there by John MacDonald of Glenaladale when he and his siter emigrated.
My research leads me to believe that the 1968 interpretation/copy was significantly inaccurate and I’m trying to confirm the correct pattern. Ideally I want to track down the specimen, which I feel must still exist, and if at all possible get a photograph of it to confirm the pattern, colours etc.
Does anyone live on Prince Edward Island or got any contacts there that would be interested in helping with a bit of historical research?
In anticipation,
