My first total day in a kilt
2/5/10 was my first day out in public in my kilt, at least all day. The previous evening I dropped my nephew off at his college dorm kilted and got some funny looks and a couple of polite questions but nothing much. The next day 2/5/10 I took my daughter to school, ran some errands at the mall, target, etc. and even delivered flowers (a funeral home and private residences) kilted.
One of the employees stopped to stare but when I spoke she was polite and we talked for several minutes. That evening we capped the evening with at a pub listening to our favorite local band "My Three Kilts." It is the second time we have seen them live and they were impressed by my kilt. We talked to them before the show and I even passed on a SW kilts card to them. They are wearing UK's now but the singer especially was interested in aquiring more kilts. I did have one semi-uncomfortable encounter at the bar with a local but it was more or less that he did not have the guts to wear a kilt in public (not everyone is perfect). He was a little denegrating but not terrible, and my fiancee was great about it. I had photos made with the band afterward and hope to post them in the next week or so.

It's been a long strange ride so far and I'm not even halfway home yet.

All in all sounds like a great day kilted. The fact that you had a lovely lady on your arm at the bar never hurts

I wore my first Kilt September 2,2009. I too wore it all day and to several stores etc. Have worn one every day since. After a few days questions and comments ceased. Now everybody expects to see me in a kilt. I put off wearing a kilt for many years because I was afraid of the comments it would generate. I am sorry I made that mistake because I have received very few derogatory remarks. Most people question the kilt out of curiosity and make complementary comments about it. I now wear a kilt everywhere, to church, to funerals (to many of those anymore), to Philharmonic concerts, and to work. Love them.

Well done!
I remember my first time walking through Glasgow kilted... that certainly broke the ice for me.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

You are hooked now. Your next goal is to spend a week kilted.
