Chief of Clan MacNeil of Barra dies

As no-one else appears to have seen this - http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/scot...ght.6078167.jp -I thought I should post it. A truly rare phenomenon - a clan chief who could be described as a good man and a benefactor to his clansmen. Not too many of those in history.

This is very sad news. I claim some connection with this clan on my maternal side. Indeed, my family hails from Barra, having left there to come to Canada two generations ago. I hope the family and the community are doing okay.

Not too many Clan Chiefs who have taught a future USA President either.

I'm sorry that I missed this thread. I just got notice of this via email this morning. He taught at Cornell Law School (where I work) from 1959-80. Many of the staff and faculty here remember him very fondly.

My thoughts are with his family.
