A question of want

Just a quick question...This may be way out of line but I have to ask...I am desirous of a Wallace tartan kilt for very very casual wear. I have no family connection to Clan Wallace except that John de Graham was known as William Wallace's Richt hand...Would it be totally out of line for me to wear the Wallace tartan in honor of that tradition?

Go for it. Most people in the US won't care which tartan you wear.

You'll probably get a variety of opinions on this, but in the end its your choice. As long as the tartan in question is not registered as a private use, there is no law that says you can't wear whatever you want. As was already said: "go for it" & wear it with pride!

Not at all. you wear it in honor of an old relationship between a relative and a hero, wear it in pride.

By the way, if you are a waist size 44-46 inches I have a deal for you, as I have a brand new Wallace 8 yard casual kilt listed in the For Sale section of this very forum.

Your stated reason is just fine with me. Some folks say the wear it in honor of the great patriot, and that is fine, too.

If anyone is interested in membership in the Clan Wallace Society Worldwide, it is open to "all Scots of any Clan and all others who wish they were Scots."

For inexpensive knock-about kilts in the Wallace tartan, check out the Frugal Corner--I think they have a sale going on, or Stillwater kilts. If you want to go up a bit in price try USA kilts.
