As I was leaving the station nearest my office on my way to work, I helped someone figure out how to use the Washington, DC, Metro system farecard machine (admittedly a baffling wall of buttons, slots, A-B-C keys and "smart card" target, even for someone who lives here). After we got him is fare to Clarendon, VA, and certainly because I was kilted, he asked me what my connection to Scotland was, so I answered "distant family".
He then told me he was from Edinburgh, handed me his card along with a "if you're ever in Edinburgh", and a promise to find a distillery for a visit, should I look him up when visiting. Such a pleasant interaction to start the day!
