    Dress sporran with wooden cantle?

    Greetings all.

    I have a question if I may;
How common are dress fur sporrans, with wooden cantles?
I have never seen this type before, and it has me wondering.
(Or maybe they are Not dress sporrans?)

Thank you in advance for any replies!!

    Best wishes,
    Richard.

I sat next to a gent at our Burns Night a few months ago who was sporting a very nice dress fur sporran with a wooden cantle, he told me his daughter picked it up for him at last years Highland games. It was very different, interesting looking and looked grand with his formal wear.

    SFC Rick,

Thank you so much for the very speedy and informative reply!
I had wondered if it really Was a dress sporran but seemed too nice for a day-type.
I friend on Dava found one for me of this pattern, and it does indeed look very nice!
    Thank you again!

    Richard.

Not that I have seen one other than on the internet, I can say I haven't liked what I have seen, for myself. However, here is an older thread with a link to a small busness which makes them.

Thank you all for your candid replies!

I knew that fur sporrans may be day or evening types, depending on other criteria.

I didn't up to now know that metal cantled sporrans could be day-wear.

    Thanks for cluing me in!

    Richard.

I was at the Museum of Scotland yesterday and spotted a few 16th-17th century sporrans in a display with metal cantles but simply plain leather pouches. They looked great, albeit obviously a bit weathered, and I wonder why you don't see that style around either?
