Free Downloads!
We just added a new section to our web site -- free stuff to download!
http://scottishtartans.org/downloads.htm
It's divided into two sections. The first is a selection of free desktop wallpapers that you can download for your personal use on your computer. So far we have seven but more will be added over time.
The second section is a series of "fact sheets" designed to be quick and easy guides to common questions about tartan and the kilt, which people can download and reproduce freely to give away at their clan society tents, St. Andrews society meetings, schools, or other venues. So far we have only three of these but more are in the works.
So please keep an eye on this section as we continue to add things!

Very timely Matt! I've printed out the Fact Sheets on "What is Tartan" and "The History of the Kilt" will make copies of them and pass them on our upcoming Tartan Day celebrations!

That kind of thing is exactly what I had in mind when I came up with the idea! Excellent!
I hope they will also be of use to clan societies attending Highland Games, as well.
If anyone has suggestions about what might make for a helpful topic for a "fact sheet" let me know.

brillant idea Matt!! We spend a huge amount of time discuss kilts & tartans at our tent for the games. Plus brillant way to get your name out there into the market. Since I got my first kilt from you I try to steer people to you and other kiltmakers here on Xmarks, this will undoubtly generate more business for you

Thanks, Oldhiker. That would be great if it did, of course. Generating new business is what keeps the doors of the museum open, and I won't lie, we've had a rough 18 months with the US economy being what it is.
BUT -- that's not the main reason I put those out there. My primary reason was to provide a free educational resource for people. You'll note that the "fact sheets" don't contain any advertisements or mention of the gift shop. But each one does have the museum's address, web site, and phone numbers on the bottom of the page, where we could be reached. Hopefully people who pick up the "fact sheets" will feel inclined to contact us at some point down the road to discover more about the history and traditions of Scottish Highland Dress.
And yes, we'd be very happy if they supported us by leaving a bit of money in our gift shop! :-) But, like I said, that wasn't my primary purpose in creating these.
