New Line of Economy Hose: Glenmore

Typically you are forced to choose between high quality and affordability. Well, not necessarily. We have found what we believe to be a good compromise between quality and budget in the Glenmore kilt hose.

These hose are made by the same people who make our very popular Lewis Hose line. They are made from the same ultra-comfy merino wool blend as the Lewis hose are, and are just as easy to care for (machine wash in cold water, gentle cycle -- air dry).

Unlike the Lewis hose, they do not feature the reinforced foot (which extends the life of the hose) and the knit seems to be just a tad looser. It feels like these are a thinner sock, which may be a plus for those looking for a comfy and cool wearing hose in the summer months.

Best part is, at $22.95, the retail price is even less than our standard kilt hose.

We thought we'd give this product a try, and so right now we only have a few pair on hand in one color only, "ancient green," which is the color shown in the pic above.

I'd like to encourage people to order a pair and post your reviews and remarks here. If they seem to be popular, I'll order a larger stock in the full range of colors, which would include ecru, black, charcoal, ancient green, ancient blue and lovat blue.

So... for those of you who have been looking for a cool hose for warm weather, or a pair of economy hose for affordability, but still want nice quality and made in Scotland, here it is!

These look great--I've always enjoyed the Ancient Blue Lewis Hose I got for Christmas years ago.
I unfortunately don't need the colors listed as I'm covered already. You're sure there aren't any reds of any sort?

Nope. No reds. Ya get watcha get with the bargain hose. :-)

Part of the great appeal of our Lewis hose line, I believe, is the great range of color. That's always going to be a good selling point for those.

But the colors available in these Glenmores are popular and cover a lot of bases for a lot of people, so I still think these are a good bargain.

Just to clarify, the only color I have in stock now (and available to order) is the ancient green pictured. If people like these and they go over well, I'll order stock in the other colors and modify the order page accordingly.

The hose came in today!

I am a cheap fellow using sport socks and hand knit cuffs to approximate kilt hose (along with some wbsocks $10 hose.)

I think I might be addicted. I really like them they aren't as stretchy as the cheaper socks but they have substance to them. (something I only had in my one pair of handknit hose I made)

They are a nice fit and very comfortable. It's still on the cool side up here in Ohio so I can't say as they're better for hot places but they sure seem nice to me. I'll try and get some pics up soon.

Despite the fact that I found my bonnet I had just come in from outside practicing my pipes on a windy afternoon without it. I wore the Black Argyle to an afternoon concert with a bow tie... I was still in the stages of "undress" after an event...

I bought a pair, and I am very satisfied with them. The color looks very good with my Stewart Black kilt. They are a bit longer than I need (I am about 5'8" tall), but an extra turn down solves that issue. Quite frankly, I spent the money for a hand made kilt (from Matt), but I don't want hose that I have to view as an investment. I don't want to feel guilty about throwing away a pair of socks when they wear out!

They look great with your Gordon kilt, especially with the coordinating shirt! Well done!
