    Question Any Swiss kilties?

So I went to the grocery store this evening enkilted. Gold Bros Heritage of Ireland, nothing too special. But I had more people approach me than I ever had in one 10-minute encounter.

The first said "Nice skirt!" He quickly followed up what he thought might have been a derogatory remark with "No, really, man, I mean it. I like it."

The second (sitting with the first) exclaimed that he was Irish, too... a Lowe.

The third actually started a conversation about a Highland wedding his best friend had recently been in.

The fourth... the cashier... she asked, "So, are you from Switzerland?"

So got me thinking. Just for the fun of it... where are our members from? I know we have a lot of Scots, British, Americans, Canadians... but any other less commonly kilted areas?

(btw, I gently corrected the lovely lady by telling her whilst I was from Texas, my great grand father was from SCOTland)

Well... this question got me thinking about the fact that I got a bonnet order from Switzerland, a week or so ago. Interesting, yeah?

Not to derail the thread, but was it from one of the rabble, I wonder? If so, it'd be cool to confirm.

There are several Swiss pipe bands, and a Swiss tartan that was designed not too long ago.

I'm part Swiss but I didn't know it until I worked on my family tree. My Swiss ancestor came to the Province of New Jersey around 1745.

Well, I'm not a Swiss, actually, but a Dane.
However, my wife and I will spend a month every Summer in Southern Switzerland (Lugano) just a few kilometers from the italian border. With a very few exceptions we have done so for 30 years.

Well I'm half Swiss and half British Isles. Been to both several times. There are some interesting commonalities. Both nations are mountainous and have a highland mentality, both have a history of fighting for their own independence and both were noted for their use of pikes in battle. Love them both, and I can't get into my Lederhosen anymore.

Not to mention that long with the Irish, the Scots and Swiss were for years noted as the professional soldiers of Europe.

    Thats TWO!

Maybe your cashier was related to the very intoxicated pan handler in the parking lot of a supermarket in Albuquerque who hollared out at me, "Hey Switzerland!!"
