Too funny!
I can sympathize though. Once while visiting a foreign country I ordered something in a restaurant but mangled the pronunciation and thus asked for a roasted dwarf.

No, dwarf wasn't on the menu. Nor troll nor elf either.
After some very startled looks from the waiter and a very short man at the next table over, we managed to work out what I wanted.

As one of the poor tax-payers who has to pay for this nonsense I don't think its very funny. Everything official in Wales has to have a translation into Welsh despite the fact that the majority of the population don't speak Welsh and they all speak English.
Almost nowhere do you find commercial companies bothering - because it costs money and as there is no demand they don't bother but tax payers largess knows no bounds.
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

What kind of low class restaurant was this, that didn't have any of these on the menu? Next you will tell me they didn't have gnome or pixie either.

Reminds me of a friend who got a tattoo in Mandirin that supposedly said "Fortune Favors the Bold" but found out years later that is said something about what kind of men turn him on.
How long did it take for someone to catch that? You would think someone had to have noticed in the course of making, packing, shipping, unpacking, putting it up...
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.
