    Sinful Davey

Watched this movie last night on TCM. Directed by John Houston (1969) with a young John Hurt as a 18th century Scotsman who tries to live the life of a Highwayman like his dead father. Listed as a comedy. Lots of kilts in this one from soldiers and pipers, highland games and ceileigh to golfing. Some very funny scenes (golfing). The scenery is very grand although County Wicklow Ireland stands in for Scotland in this movie. Robert Morely plays the Duke of Argylle and the movie is loosely based on the true story of Davey Haggart Scottish highwayman and thief. A well filmed movie and was a great late night watch. Not on video yet, but you can vote for its release on the TCM website.

To be honest I'd never heard of this one. Thanks for the heads up!

And sadly not available in any format that I could find in North America. I did find a Spanish PAL version on DVD.

I suspect it was marketed as a "Highland romp"

I benefit from a 'region blind' video player and have just finished a viewing.
    Addendums to SFCRick's review:

John Hurt's character steals pretty much anything he can get his paws on,
but canna' see the True Love (cute as she is) chasing him across the countryside, until...

    Very color-by-Deluxe-1969 looking.
Not much dirt, accents are mangled (I suspect), and much 'hijinx', with overt musical cues.

Kilt & costume-wise, this will send Panache and several others scrambling for the Pause button frequently, and tartan will be debated.
Perhaps Hamish is available for a commentary track?

If ever the 'XMTS Cinema On Demand' ramps up, this should lead the 'Sartorial Reference' genre.
    Find power in peace,
