Best Practice for the Snaps on Utilikilts
Every time I put on my UKs, a Survivor and a Workman's, I try to find the most efficent way to do up the large V of snaps, ie, starting from the top, starting from the bottom, from one side, from both sides, folding the material, pressing the base of the snap against my leg, etc. So far, it has always been a pain to get done but I suspect I may be missing the trick of the thing. So, if anyone has settled on what they think is the best and most efficent way to go about do the chore, I'd be interested to hear about it.
And don't ask about the 'security closures', I can't do those up even with the kilt off me.

I start at the bottom left hand side with the over apron folded back over my left forearm. Do up the left side snaps then the right. My Survival has two of the security closures. I have only ever buttoned them to hold together the front apron. I haven't used them to fasten the front to the back. In fact I don't use the lower one at all.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

Mostly Mockers...
Snapping: Top to bottom, left then right, just pressing against my torso/leg.
Unsnapping: Top right & down, top left & down.
It's almost automatic now. I suspect that if I pulled on some trousers, I'd stare blankly at the zipper for a few beats.
I know on my non-snap kilts, I tend to pull a little harder than necessary if I'm not paying attention...

I snap my UKs the same way, top left down and up through the V, but then I just rip the apron from right to left when done. It always comes right off.

Had 15 of them buggers. Snapped top right first to hold it, then top left. Then middle left and bottom left to bottom right and middle right. That last middle right was a challenge since not much to push it against.
Unsnapped top left first then sort of just put a bit of pressure on each snap in turn as I pulled the apron away to the right - being careful to unsnap, not tear cloth.

I put mine on top left to top right going through the V. Taking it off i just grab the right belt loop and pull, ususaly works no problems yet.

I don't own any UKs but I have 3 Amerikilts, which have two vertical rows of snaps down the front. When I saw this thread I just had to try something:
I snapped all the snaps before putting it on, then I threw the kilt over my head, T-shirt style and pulled it down onto my hips. Now I'm a slim guy, but this was harder than I thought. The velcro closure got undone in the process, and the final fit was less than ideal.
Stick to whatever you were doing. This doesn't work.

Glad to know I'm not the only person who has slid a kilt over their head! My Survival is a size too big for me, and I've been slipping it over my head for a long time. I just got lazy one day and didn't feel like undoing the snaps or fussing with tucking my shirt in, so I gave it a go, and it worked great! My new Workman's is the right size though, and won't slide down as easily as the Survivor unfortunately.
when I do do up the snaps, I start at the top left, and work my way down, then back up the right side. No real trick to it, just grab the material and snap it together.

what you unsnap them? I just slide them up my skinny hips and quickly slap a belt around me

ON: Left top then head down and around. I fold the material just enough to get my thumb underneath. Done in 30 seconds.
OFF: Undo belt, rip it from right to left. They are sturdy.
Unfortunantly, no security closers on the orriginal UK.
Though becasue of all the weight I lost (Testicular cancer), I got one several inches two big so I could grow back into it. I could easily pull it up without unsnapping and over my head, it would probably slide right past my waist. I lost 30 pound, still 20 under my starting weight.
