Leather?
My son is working on a project for which he needs a small, but heavyweight(7 to 8 oz.) piece of leather. From what he showed me, it would be less than 15" x 15". With all of the sporran makers and leather working hobbyists we have here, I am hoping that someone can provide a link to a source where he can get a small piece of leather, without buying a whole side. Oh yes, it should also be relatively stiff in texture.

A few possibilities come to mind, one of which may be near you.
Tandy or a similar leather store, a craft shop, a saddle maker or repair shop, or a motorcyle leather shop.
There may be other folks with additional ideas, but those should get you started.
Good luck in your search!

Try www.theleatherguy.org . I've bought from him before, and have always been satisfied. May have to keep an eye on the site, as it seems like his stock changes week to week.

Shameless plug here...but you could call my wife who manages the Memphis Tandy Leather Factory Store and I'm sure she could hook you up with something.

Be sure to tell her that her wonderful husband sent you!..

Most Tandy stores or other leather shops will have a bin of scraps. You should usually be able to find something there that will work.
I'm positive my wife has scraps laying around at the saddle shop that would work, and I can have her check if you like. But the shipping may cost more than if you just found it locally.

Our closest Tandy shop (Richmond Va) seems to have gone out of business, and the online store lists only full sides.
This is a rough drawing of what my son is trying to make.
Disclaimer:
I'm far from being an artist. Measurements aren't precise as I couldn't locate my tape measure, so I measured it against my Genius Pen Tablet, which is 8" x 6"
