Tartan Gauntlets

I was just thinking of gauntlet fabrics. I'm in the search for a jacket to have converted. Originaly my plan was no gauntlets but I had read a few places that its not uncommon to have gauntlets on jackets made from other fabrics. Has anyone had a jacket made with gauntlets in a tartan matching thier kilt, or any patterned fabric? would this just be tacky or might I have an idea for a truely custom looking jacket?

I know there can be such a thing as too much tartan and a jacket such as this with kilt, tartan waistcoat, and a plaid of some sort would be too much.

Also it could be a nice touch with a tartan waistcoat and solid color kilt.

Whats everyones thoughts on this?

When you say "gauntlets" are you meaning cuffs? If you are, then yes, in my humble opinion tartan would be unnecessary and frankly, over the top for what you intend.

I learnt, many years ago, that trying to re-invent the wheel was a trying and frustrating pastime------the wretched thing was still round and any modification that might have come about was already there! Still it passes the time.

Not trying to reinvent the wheel just trying to put a nicer set of wheels on my car so to speak.

There is a company (the name fails me) which is marketing 'Welsh Prince Charlie' jackets.

The cuff is, of course, not a gauntlet cuff, but bit does give an impression of what a final outcome might look like.

I was ready to argue with you on this one, Jock. I thought maybe a tartan cuff would be a nice twist, but I think Chas has cured me. The tartan at the cuff itself is not so bad, but add in the pocket flaps AND the tartan tie and it's a scary prospect.

I think that jacket would look good worn with (solid) trousers and I expect I have seen mess jackets with tartan facings, but wonder why Alexis Malcolm is blaming the Welsh?

I think I read somewhere that this was an attempt to establish a Welsh Cilting Identity. Like the Irish have the invented 'Kilkenny' and the 'Brian Baru' jackets, this was supposed to be a separate identity.

Either there would have to be some method of changing flaps or one could only wear one kilt. Not an advantage, I think.

Oh, well.
