I saw that tonight on NBC News as well. The link to msnbc in the first post gives more information about him after D-Day, very interesting. He was a true unarmed HERO as well as all the others who hit that beach on D-Day.

My Dad, who turned 93, in July is a WW II vet. He didn't storm the beaches in France, he arrived later and he was near the Battle of the Bulge and later was in the Philippines preparing for the invasion of Japan.

Just read the artical online. As soon as it started, I though of the movie, the Longest Day, which is the movie he is memorialized in, for those who did not know.

That certainly took a lot of guts.

The Pipes are recognised as a weapon of war and this article shows clearly why... and how they inspire.

It is amazing that his pipes are still able to be seen with the now weathered by age tartan.
Where are they held ?

Oh wow! As there are I think three threads going on here about this brave man I will not say any more than has already been said. But do you know if the tartan on the pipes has weathered to that colour, is it a recognised tartan and was it woven to some sort of low profile colour to suit THE occasion!?
