Chrome Cantles

i'm considering the purchase of an inexpensive dress sporran that is of quality leather/fur but i'm concerned about the chrome cantle, which is the element that makes for the reduced expense.

what is the primary reason that a chrome cantle would perhaps be undesireable on a dress sporran? is it simply cosmetic or is there some other quality issues?

As a custom motorcycle guy chrome is very easy to maintain no polishing just a quick wipe down with windex. As a side note there are a few places that still do Black Chrome.
